Important information

VTR-PON is a personal hobby project distributed free of charge. The listed features are not guaranteed to work in every environment, and bugs may remain in the latest version. Before using it for an important event, test it thoroughly with the actual Mac, media, and video and audio outputs you plan to use.

Why I built VTR-PON, and a note to users

PPTX and PowerPoint files are supported only by the Windows version.

System requirements

OS
macOS 15.0 or later
CPU
Apple Silicon arm64. Intel Macs are not supported.
Displays
Two displays are recommended to separate the controls from ON AIR output. Use extended displays in macOS display settings.
Documents
PDF playback and conversion are supported.
Virtual camera
Uses the bundled Camera Extension. Enabling it in macOS and starting output in VTR-PON are separate actions.

Features & requirements

Install and launch the DMG edition

  1. Close VTR-PON and its companion apps, then open the downloaded DMG.
  2. Drag VTR-PON.app into Applications.
  3. After copying, eject the DMG and launch VTR-PON from Applications.
  4. Set the ON AIR display and audio output, then follow Getting started to add media and test playback to your output.

First launch and permissions

When using camera or audio input, follow the macOS prompts to allow camera and microphone access.

For virtual camera output, enable the Camera Extension as instructed by macOS, then start output in VTR-PON.

For add-ons or external devices, separately install the matching Mac package and required vendor runtime.

Verify downloaded files

Open the SHA-256 checksums and find the line with your downloaded file name. In Terminal, run this command from the folder containing the DMG.

shasum -a 256 VTR-PON-3.0.0-beta.2-macos-arm64.dmg

Compare the displayed hash and file name with that line. If the values differ, do not use the file; download it again from the official link.

Update or remove

Update

Back up your settings and playlists, then close VTR-PON and its companion apps. Open the new DMG, replace VTR-PON.app in Applications, and launch it.

See Import / export for saving your data.

Remove

Close VTR-PON and its companion apps, then remove VTR-PON.app from Applications. Settings, logs, caches and generated media are not removed automatically; back up any data you need first. Manage vendor runtimes and user-installed VST3 effects according to their own instructions.

Before you start

Privacy indicator dots in full-screen output

When a camera or microphone is in use, macOS may show a dot in the upper-right corner of full-screen output.
macOS Sonoma 14.4 or later provides a way to hide it, but this requires steps in macOS Recovery.
This applies only to external displays showing an app in full screen; indicators remain visible on the main display.

Apple's official instructions: Hide privacy indicators on external displays

  • VTR-PON 3 is entirely separate software, built as a different project under a different license from VTR-PON2. Importing or migrating VTR-PON2 settings and playlists is not supported.
  • If you need the older VTR-PON 2, you can download it here. Official development of VTR-PON2 has ended.
  • Original code in the VTR-PON 3 app is licensed under Mozilla Public License 2.0. Third-party libraries have their own licenses.

Please read License, network access & usage data. For help, see Troubleshooting; to report bugs, see Development & feedback.
