Important information

VTR-PON is a personal hobby project distributed free of charge. The listed features are not guaranteed to work in every environment, and bugs may remain in the latest version. Before using it for an important event, test it thoroughly with the actual PC, media, and video and audio outputs you plan to use.

Why I built VTR-PON, and a note to users

The installer and EXE files in the ZIP edition are not code-signed. Windows may display a warning. Check the download source and file name, then verify the SHA-256 using the steps below. Test this beta with your production PC, media, and connected devices before use.

System requirements

OS
Windows 11 x64
Displays
Two displays are recommended to separate the controls from ON AIR output. Set Windows display mode to Extend.
PowerPoint
PPTX playback and conversion require the desktop version of Microsoft PowerPoint. PDF does not.
Virtual camera
Registration, updates, and removal require administrator rights and UAC approval.

See Features & requirements for codec and external-device requirements.

Install and launch with the installer

  1. Close VTR-PON and its companion apps, then run the downloaded installer.
  2. Follow the setup wizard. The app is installed per user, normally in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\VTR-PON3. A UAC prompt appears when registering the virtual camera.
  3. Launch VTR-PON from the Start menu.
  4. Set the ON AIR display and audio output, then follow Getting started to add media and test playback to your output.

Launch the ZIP edition

  1. Extract the entire downloaded ZIP to a folder of your choice. Do not run the EXE directly from inside the ZIP.
  2. Run vtr-pon.exe in the extracted folder. No Start menu entry is created.
  3. Set the ON AIR display and audio output, then follow Getting started to check operation.

The ZIP edition also saves settings in %APPDATA%\VTR-PON3\user.ini. Extracting the ZIP does not register the virtual camera. Use the installer if you need automatic registration.

Verify downloaded files

Open the SHA-256 checksums and find the line with your downloaded file name. In Windows PowerShell, run the following command from the folder containing the download.

Get-ChildItem -File -Path .\VTR-PON-*-windows-x64* | Where-Object { $_.Extension -in '.exe', '.zip' } | Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256

Check the file name in Path and compare its Hash with the checksum. If you have downloaded several versions, each result is shown separately. Letter case does not matter. If the values differ, do not use the file; download it again from the official link.

Update or uninstall

Update

Back up your settings and playlists, then close VTR-PON and its companion apps. For the installer edition, run the new installer. For the ZIP edition, extract the new ZIP to a different folder and run the new vtr-pon.exe. Remove the old folder once you no longer need it.

See Import / export for saving playlists and settings. The normal settings file is %APPDATA%\VTR-PON3\user.ini.

Uninstall

If uninstalling with the previous installer fails, download and run the latest installer over the existing installation, then uninstall again. If prompted to restart, save your work and restart Windows.

For the installer edition, uninstall VTR-PON3 from Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps. Removing the virtual camera requires administrator rights. For the ZIP edition, close VTR-PON and delete the extracted folder.

Neither method automatically removes settings, logs, caches, or generated media. Back up any data you need before removing it.

Before you start

  • VTR-PON 3 is entirely separate software, built as a different project under a different license from VTR-PON2. Importing or migrating VTR-PON2 settings and playlists is not supported.
  • If you need the older VTR-PON 2, you can download it here. Official development of VTR-PON2 has ended.
  • Original code in the VTR-PON 3 app is licensed under Mozilla Public License 2.0. Third-party libraries have their own licenses.

Please read License, network access & usage data. For help, see Troubleshooting; to report bugs, see Development & feedback.
